Brothers Jozef and Martin Žovinec, working under the joint name Zovinec Bros., have long focused on themes of memory and home.

In the current exhibition, objects related to memory are presented again, and, more distantly, to the idea of home—which gains clear contours when a person is away from it, somewhere on a journey. In line with the theme of travel, the installation uses the principle of foldability, meaning the objects can be easily disassembled and transported. Because of this principle, specific memories (multi-layered, irregularly shaped, with many protrusions) are simplified and translated into geometric forms that can be unfolded, assembled, and carried. This distills the experience to its essence, while details are lost, and the installation may appear unreadable to outsiders.

Drawings recording specific moments complement the works and help with interpretation. However, the primary goal is not to perfectly convey the stories behind the works. The artists explore possible aesthetic expressions of memory through traditional media. In textiles, multiple perspectives open across two circular surfaces—up close, working with the texture of the material (denim jeans or sleeping mats) and impressions of the real body, or from above—a bird’s-eye view that transforms the human-shaped landscape into an abstract pattern.
