FOR MAAT Brussels – Juraj Jaroš

Juraj Jaroš (1983) studied in the Studio of Classical Painting Disciplines under Prof. Ľudovít Hološka. His painting oscillates between representations of the material world and its symbolic dimensions. He lives and works in Dubnica nad Váhom. He describes his approach to painting in his own words:

“My painting is strongly shaped by an autobiographical thread. The image, conceived as both a conceptual idea and a carefully constructed composition, is naturally informed by narrative, in which banal objects, a personal repertoire of symbols and their layers of meaning become carriers of the story, situated within a space of two realities. The suspension of the depicted objects in time and the sacralisation of the everyday emerge through a situational dialogue between form and content, evoking existential questions of the individual, the boundaries imposed by society and the environment in which one exists, takes root and continually finds new ground.”

The work Pink Island, from the ongoing cycle Boy’s Diary, is a metaphor for the search for home and for a place of one’s own within an emptied and dehumanised space.

The Street Gallery FOR MAAT Brussels is realized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Brussels, the Trenčín-based platform FOR MAAT, and Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture.
