HANGOUT, acrylic on canvas, 150x130cm, 2025
Natália Okolicsányiová graduated in painting from the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica in 2010, where she studied under Štefan Balázs in the Studio of Critical Image Analysis. She completed her doctoral studies at the same institution nine years later. In addition to her painting practice, she is also involved in teaching and currently lives and works between Trenčín and Bratislava.
Throughout her career, she has exhibited primarily in Slovakia, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her work is characterized by expressive figuration rooted in personal experience and a search for the essence of things. She seeks to penetrate the inner world of her subjects through layers of paint, overpainting, and figurative deformation, emphasizing the personal over the universal. Although her work is marked by a neo-expressionist gesture, it is grounded in a strong conceptual framework informed by contemporary feminist theory.
The Street Gallery FOR MAAT Brussels is realized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Brussels, the Trenčín-based platform FOR MAAT, and Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture.
