April 14 – May 14, 2023
Artist: Marek Štuller
Curator: Filip Bielek

Marek Štuller is a Bratislava-based artist who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU) in Bratislava. He graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Object, and Installation, specifically from the Studio of Sculpture in 3D Virtual Space and Architecture under Professor Patrik Kovačovský. During his studies, he completed one-semester residencies at EASD València in Spain and in the Studio of Spatial Communications+ under Prof. Anton Čierny.
He is the founder and curator of the public platform Monolith.

In his work, Štuller draws on current societal issues, systematically developing themes related to ecology and reflecting on contemporary socio-political concerns. He primarily works with recycled materials such as wood, polystyrene, and ready-made objects.

With the project The Democratic Hydra, Štuller builds on his earlier piece Chimera (2020), which addressed the future of work—an increasingly pressing issue affecting a large portion of society today. The core of The Democratic Hydra lies in the fluidity and mutability of economic and social systems, emphasizing the possibilities for shaping more egalitarian, democratic, and sustainable societies in light of today’s environmental challenges.
